Overview:

A Server Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and ensuring the reliable operation, performance, and security of an organization’s computer servers and related IT infrastructure. This role includes installing, configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing server hardware and software, as well as supporting end-users and collaborating with IT teams to meet organizational technology needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, operating systems, and related software applications.
• Monitor server performance, uptime, and resource utilization, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights to ensure security and compliance.
• Implement and maintain security measures, such as firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems to protect servers from threats.
• Conduct regular backup operations and test disaster recovery plans to safeguard organizational data.
• Collaborate with IT teams on network configurations, virtualization, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on servers, network devices, and peripherals.
• Document server configurations, operational procedures, and incident resolutions.
• Automate server management tasks to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
• Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and IT staff.
• Stay updated with the latest server technologies and best practices.

Qualification & Experience:

• B. Tech. or equivalent
• 8+ years of experience as a Server Administrator or similar role.
• Proficiency with Windows Server, Linux, or Unix operating systems.
• Strong knowledge of server hardware, networking protocols, and virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware).
• Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other essential network services.
• Familiarity with security protocols and tools to protect server environments.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, CompTIA Server+, Linux+).

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
• Knowledge of database management and backup tools.
• Ability to plan and execute capacity planning and scalability initiatives.
