Overview: The Lab Technician – Pathology is responsible for performing diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures on clinical specimens to support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. The role requires meticulous specimen handling, testing, and reporting while maintaining compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

• Collect and label blood, urine, stool, and other biological samples from patients.
• Perform routine laboratory tests such as CBC, blood glucose, urine analysis, etc.
• Operate and maintain lab instruments like microscopes, centrifuges, and analysers.
• Prepare and stain slides for microscopic examination as required.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of specimens and hazardous materials.
• Record and report test results accurately and promptly in system under supervision.
• Prepare and stain the slides histopathology and cytology.
• Assist the pathologist in grossing, embedding, microtomy and staining tissue.
• Follow quality control procedures and maintain documentation as per lab protocols.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment regularly.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility in the laboratory environment.
• Participate in internal quality control and external quality assurance programme.

Qualification & Experience:

• Diploma or BSc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in pathology laboratory settings, preferably in a hospital.
• Well versed with handling of latest equipment and staining technologies and protocols.
• Strong knowledge of haematology principles, laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
• Good communication & teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency cases when needed.
• Proficiency in laboratory information systems and basic computer skills.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality, ethical and safety protocols.
