Overview: The Lab Technician – Biochemistry is responsible for performing a wide range of biochemical tests on patient samples to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases. The role requires adherence to laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, and hospital policies to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

• Collect, handle, and process biological specimens (blood, urine, CSF, etc.) for biochemical analysis.
• Perform routine and specialized biochemical assays including liver function tests, kidney function tests, lipid profiles, glucose testing, enzyme analysis, and electrolytes.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain automated analyzers and laboratory equipment.
• Prepare reagents, solutions, and standards according to protocols.
• Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures, infection control measures, and biohazard disposal protocols.
• Record and report test results accurately and timely to the relevant medical staff.
• Participate in internal and external quality control programs to maintain laboratory accreditation standards (IQC, EQAS)
• Assist in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and ensuring proper maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of reagents, consumables, and lab supplies.
• Support research and development activities in the biochemistry lab, if required.
• Stay updated with advancements in laboratory techniques, equipment, and procedures.

Qualification & Experience:

• Diploma or BSc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in clinical biochemistry laboratory settings, preferably in a hospital.
• Strong knowledge of clinical biochemistry principles and laboratory procedures.
• Well versed with handling of latest equipment
• Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and recording results.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced hospital environment.
• Good communication skills for interacting with medical staff and patients.
