Overview: The Infection Control Nurse will play a key role in safeguarding patient and staff safety in a multi-specialty hospital setting. The role focuses on infection prevention initiatives, outbreak management, and maintaining the highest standards of hospital epidemiology.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Develop, implement, and monitor infection control policies to ensure compliance with best practices, statutory regulations, and hospital standards.
  • Conduct regular clinical audits to evaluate adherence to infection prevention protocols and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive surveillance systems to monitor infection rates, trends, and outcomes across all hospital departments.
  • Lead and coordinate the investigation and management of hospital-acquired infection outbreaks, ensuring timely containment and accurate reporting.
  • Educate clinical and support staff on infection control measures through structured training sessions, workshops, and ongoing communication initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hospital management, quality, and clinical teams to develop and implement strategies for enhancing patient safety and infection prevention.
  • Analyse surveillance data, prepare reports, and present findings to relevant stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Participate in accreditation and compliance activities, contributing to adherence with local, national, and international infection control standards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on infection prevention practices during new clinical program launches, risk assessments, and policy updates.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering professional growth, developing infection control competencies, and promoting continuous performance improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with diploma/ certificate course in infection control from a recognized institution and Delhi Nursing Council Registration.
  • Minimum 10 years  of professional nursing experience out of which atleast 5 years as ICN in a 200 or more bedded hospital.  
  • Strong expertise in Infection Control, including developing, implementing, and monitoring protocols to reduce healthcare-associated infections.
  • Proven knowledge in Hospital Epidemiology, with the ability to understand disease transmission patterns and implement effective preventive strategies.
  • Proficient in surveillance systems to monitor, analyze, and report infection trends, enabling timely interventions and continuous improvement.
  • Experienced in clinical auditing to evaluate compliance with infection control policies and provide actionable recommendations to healthcare teams.
  • Committed to patient safety initiatives, including staff training, procedural reviews, and ongoing education on infection prevention practices.
  • Skilled in outbreak management, coordinating rapid response, containment measures, and interdepartmental communication during infection incidents.
  • Excellent communication skills for educating staff, reporting findings, and providing updates to patients, families, and clinical teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills to support evidence-based infection control standards.
  • Ability to mentor and guide teams, fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and adherence to current infection control guidelines.
