Overview: The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting cardiologists and other medical staff during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, such as angiograms, angioplasties, pacemaker insertions, and other cardiac catheterization procedures. The technician ensures that all equipment functions properly, maintains a sterile environment, and supports patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure. The role also requires strict adherence to radiation safety protocols and compliance with all AERB statutory licensing and other regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Prepare the Cath Lab and ensure all required equipment and supplies are ready before procedures.
  • Assist the cardiologist during cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, and pacemaker implantation procedures.
  • Operate and monitor imaging, hemodynamic, and recording equipment during procedures.
  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques to prevent infection.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and assist in managing emergencies during procedures.
  • Ensure proper calibration, sterilization, and maintenance of Cath Lab instruments and devices.
  • Record procedural details, patient data, and usage of materials accurately.
  • Handle and dispose of bio-medical waste as per hospital policy.
  • Support post-procedure patient care and transfer to recovery or ICU.
  • Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and assist in code situations.
  • Participate in AERB mandated radiation safety trainings.
  • Ensure full compliance with AERB statutory requirements, ensure renewal of valid licenses related to radiology equipment and personal.
  • Ensure that radiation dose is within permissible limits and report any radiation safety incident to RSO.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology / Cath Lab Technology.
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Cath Lab or cardiac department.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and interventional procedures.
  • Good interpersonal, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including weekends and on-call duties.
