Overview: The Bronchoscopy Technician is responsible for providing technical and clinical support during bronchoscopy and related pulmonary procedures. This role involves preparation, operation, and maintenance of bronchoscopy equipment, ensuring strict infection control, assisting physicians during procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation to deliver safe and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

• Prepare the bronchoscopy suite before each procedure, ensuring all equipment and instruments are sterilized, functional, and ready for use.
• Verify operation of bronchoscope, suction, video systems, and light source.
• Arrange all necessary accessories such as biopsy forceps, specimen traps, and syringes.
• Assist in patient preparation, including checking identity, procedure consent, and monitoring parameters.
• Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.
• Assist the pulmonologist during diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures (e.g., Bronchoalveolar lavage, Transbronchial biopsy, Brushings, Stent placement).
• Handle and operate suction, video, and specimen collection systems.
• Label and handle biological specimens accurately for laboratory dispatch.
• Monitor patient status during the procedure and immediately report any abnormalities to the physician or nurse.
• Maintain aseptic technique and support patient safety throughout the procedure.
• Assist with post-procedure patient care, including recovery monitoring and transfer if required.
• Disinfect and reprocess bronchoscopes and accessories as per infection control guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
• Clean, sterilize, and safely store all instruments and equipment.
• Record all procedure details, equipment usage, and sterilization logs.
• Ensure the bronchoscopy suite is restocked and ready for the next case.
• Maintain accurate inventory of instruments, consumables, and reprocessing materials.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and report equipment issues promptly.
• Comply with hospital safety, biomedical waste management, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in training programs, infection control audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualification & Experience:

• Diploma or BSc. in Endoscopy Technology & Operation Theatre Technology, Respiratory Therapy is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in a bronchoscopy or endoscopy unit preferred.
• Strong knowledge of bronchoscopy procedures, equipment, and infection control. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Good communication, teamwork, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency cases when needed.
