Assistant Manager – BME (JD-0024)
Overview: The Assistant Manager Biomedical Engineering (BME) is responsible for ensuring operational continuity and functional safety of medical equipment. The role demands, coordination with clinical departments, and timely escalation of technical issues. Assistant Manager oversees preventive and corrective maintenance, vendor service performance, equipment documentation, and supports audit compliance.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
- Manage equipment in high-risk areas like ICUs, Operation Theatres, Emergency Department, and Cath Lab.
- Oversee all biomedical assets used in OPDs, Diagnostics, general wards, patient rooms, and specialty clinics.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and readiness checks within the allocated zones.
- Ensure that all planned preventive maintenance (PPM) is executed as per schedule by internal staff or service providers.
- Supervise the timely resolution of breakdown calls, with attention to critical life-saving devices.
- Validate maintenance records, logbooks, and calibration status for all equipment.
- Lead Biomedical Executives in their respective zones and ensure appropriate task distribution.
- Monitor performance of team members, guide troubleshooting efforts, and ensure adherence to safety norms.
- Train staff on equipment SOPs, troubleshooting checklists, and emergency readiness protocols.
- Coordinate with AMC/CMC vendors for scheduled servicing, breakdown repairs, and escalated issues.
- Review service reports submitted by vendors and escalate performance issues to the Manager β BME.
- Track spare part requirements and follow up on pending service interventions.
- Maintain complete documentation related to equipment performance, history sheets, calibration records, and service logs.
- Prepare area-wise audit checklists and ensure NABH, AERB, and internal audit readiness at all times.
- Assist in presenting equipment related documentation during quality or safety audits.
- Work with clinical teams to ensure operational and safety validation before equipment handover.
- Submit daily and weekly reports to the Manager BME, including open complaints, completed tasks, and pending vendor follow-ups.
- Escalate unresolved breakdowns or repeated equipment failures requiring managerial intervention.
- Any other duty assigned by the reporting manager.
Qualification & Experience:
- B.E./B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering or related technical stream
- 5+ years of experience in hospital biomedical engineering
