Overview: The Lab Technician – Microbiology is responsible for performing microbiological tests and analyses on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. The role requires adherence to hospital protocols, safety standards, and quality control procedures to ensure accurate and timely results.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Receive, label, and process clinical specimens (blood, urine, swabs, sputum, stool, etc.) according to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform microbiological tests including culture, sensitivity, staining, identification of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms.
  • Prepare and maintain microbiological media, reagents, and solutions.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, and analyzers.
  • Record and analyse test results, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation in laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Follow strict infection control and biosafety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure staff safety.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance activities, including calibration and validation of laboratory instruments.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to provide relevant microbiological data for patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and notify supervisors of shortages.
  • Stay updated on new microbiological techniques, protocols, and hospital policies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or BSc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in clinical Microbiology laboratory settings, preferably in a hospital.
  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques, aseptic practices, and clinical diagnostics.
  • Strong knowledge of the protocols for use of Media for specific type of microorganisms and staining protocols.
  • Proficiency in operating standard laboratory equipment and performing routine laboratory procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to handle biological specimens safely and responsibly.

Overview: The Medical Record Technician (MRT) plays a critical role in the hospital by organizing, managing, and maintaining patient health records. Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • To prepare file, retrieve, and organize patient records (both paper-based and electronic).
